What are the dimensions of practice that have given the field of nursing a unifying focus over time?
Imogene King dedicated her life to the profession of nursing, and aimed to create “a conceptual frame of reference for nursing”. In the end, her Theory of Goal Attainment was conceived and she helped to identify several complex interactions that exist in the nurse-client relationship. Similarly, the Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing reflect the various responsibilities and competencies nurses who are masters-prepared are expected to complete and do so safely. As such, students must work towards becoming familiar with the essentials and begin to utilize them as a source of reference for guiding learning and practice. Review the Essentials of Master’s Education document that can be found under the Class Resources tab above Lectures and please examine, Essential IV:Translating and Integrating Scholarship Into Practice, as you reflect and address the following questions:
How would you answer the questions below that were posed by King based on what you know about current nursing practice?
What is the scope of practice of nurse practitioners, nurse educators and nurse leaders, and in what kind of settings do these nursing professionals perform their functions? Are the current goals of nursing similar to those of the past half century? What are the dimensions of practice that have given the field of nursing a unifying focus over time? How important will it be for master’s prepared nurses to be knowledgeable in translating research into practice as our healthcare system stands to undergo significant policy changes in the near future that may leave millions of Americans uninsured and without proper medical care?

Consider the ethical responsibility of nurses in ensuring patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice.

As emphasized in this weeks media presentation, all nurses need to be familiar with the laws and regulations that govern their practice: their states Nurse Practice Act, ANAs Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, specialty group standards of practice, etc. In addition, basic ethical principles guide nurses decision-making process every day. ANAs Code of Ethics and ANAs Social Policy Statement are two important documents that outline nurses ethical responsibilities to their patients, themselves, and their profession. This said, there is a dilemma: The laws are not always compatible with the ethical positions nurses sometimes take. This weeks Discussion focuses on such a dilemma.
To prepare:
Review this weeks Learning Resources, focusing on the information in the media presentation about the relationship between the law and ethics.
Consider the ethical responsibility of nurses in ensuring patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice.
Read the following scenario:

Lena is a community health care nurse who works exclusively with HIV-positive and AIDS patients. As a part of her job, she evaluates new cases and reviews confidential information about these patients. In the course of one of these reviews, Lena learns that her sisters boyfriend has tested HIV positive. Lena would like to protect her sister from harm and begins to consider how her sister can find out about her boyfriends health status.
Consult at least two resources to help you establish Lenas legal and ethical position. These resources might include your states Nurse Practice Act, the ANAs Code of Ethics, ANAs Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and internal or external standards of care.
Consider what action you would take if you were Lena and why.
Determine whether the law and the ANAs standards support or conflict with that action.
By Day 3
Post a description of the actions you would take in this situation, and why. Justify these actions by referencing appropriate laws, ethical standards, and professional guidelines.

Explain the health care financing and economic principles as they apply to this course of action and what would be the more efficient and effective economically to best keep supply and demand for nurses in alignment? There have been many allegations of a nursing shortage, using both the healthcare planners’ and economists’ definitions of shortages. The American Hospital Association complained of a nursing shortage in the 1950s and 1960s and supported these claims by noting the high vacancy rates in registered nurse positions and the substitution of less highly trained licensed practical nurses for RNs. Congress responded by passing the Nurse Training Act (NTA) in 1964, which began a tradition of government subsidization of nurses’ training. Between 1971 and the present, there appears to have been a number of periods of adjustment in which high vacancy rates were followed by policy to expand nurses’ training, followed by reductions in shortages. Explain the health care financing and economic principles as they apply to this course of action and what would be the more efficient and effective economically to best keep supply and demand for nurses in alignment?

Discuss what differentiates “good feedback practices” from “bad feedback practices.”You continue with your research into various types of performance appraisal systems. The following must be included in your PowerPoint presentation:

Part A Appraising Performance: Methods

5–7 PowerPoint slides; 200–250 words speaker notes per slide; min. 4 references

The senior leadership at Matrix International Corporation now have a strong understanding of the importance of performance appraisal systems and their value to the company. Their knowledge came as a result of the information that you provided to them in your executive summary. The human resources department members and your supervisor, Annalise Zajac, the Director of Human Resources, are very proud of the foundation that you have built for them. It is clear that the senior leaders at Matrix have gained more trust in you and in the new performance appraisal system that you will develop.

Annalise has asked you to prepare a PowerPoint presentation in which you evaluate a minimum of 3 different types of performance appraisal systems. She states that the information that you gather from these systems can serve as examples for the development of the system for Matrix.

You continue with your research into various types of performance appraisal systems. The following must be included in your PowerPoint presentation:

Choose a minimum of 3 distinct performance appraisal systems. This must include those measuring tasks and those measuring behavioral performance.

Provide the detailed steps and components of each of the performance appraisal systems that were chosen.

Evaluate the similarities and differences between them.

Part B is a word document Appraisal Feedback process

400-600 words with a minimum of 2 scholarly references

As the chosen project leader for the development of a new performance appraisal system at Matrix International Corporation (MIC), you continue to conduct research on some of the concerns that were voiced by senior leadership regarding the present system at Matrix. One major complaint that came directly from the employees was related to “how” feedback was provided to them during their performance appraisal reviews. Some employees viewed their treatment as “disrespectful” and the information provided about them as “inaccurate.”

What are the consequences for the nursing staff when a particular type of
leadership or management theory is used?

Quality Caring in Critical Care Nursing
Order Description
Concept Analysis Paper
Concept analysis is used to explore the meaning of a concept to further the
understanding of the concept. A research of the literature will help to define the
meaning of the concept.
Concept analysis is used to:
??Identity gaps in nursing knowledge
??Determine the need to refine or clarify a concept (a phenomenon of
interest); clarify the meaning of terms
??Evaluate the adequacy of competing concepts
??Determine the fit between the definition of the concept and its clinical
Application
Using the reading assignment (McEwen & Wills Theoretical Basis for Nursing
Unit III: Shared Theories Used by Nurses Chapter 16: Theories Models and
Frameworks from Administration and Management) develop a concept analysis
paper.
Also in the text (McEwen & Mills) see p. 58 Box 3-1 Steps in Concept Analysis.
This may offer some ideas as to how to structure your research efforts when you
write the paper
Also consider:
??Why is this concept important for nurses?
??What are the different classifications and definitions that have been?
uncovered and how are they used and measured?
??What are the consequences for the nursing staff when a particular type of
leadership or management theory is used?
Include in your concept analysis paper:
??An introduction
??Background explaining the need for the analysis of the concept
??A discussion of various forms of the concept selected including
classifications manifestations and measurement of the concept causes and
consequences
??Implications for nursing
??Conclusion/Summary: Identify real conclusions not just a summary/repetition
of the findings
??References listed in APA format (a minimum of four references besides your
textbook)
The paper should be 78 pages long and based on a faculty-approved concept.
It should be typed in Times New Roman using 12-point font and double-spaced
with 1 margins. APA format (6th ed.) must be used including a properly
formatted cover page and reference list. The proper use of headings in APA
format is also required.
** please use textbook also as references
McEwenm. &willse.m(2014) theoretical basis for nursing(4th ed).
