Nursing advocacy and leadership mean different things to different people around the world. As an individual I think that nursing advocacy amounts to celebration and championing for the rights of nurses and patients towards change that would improve the work environment and the delivery of services to patients. To some combining leadership skills and nursing advocacy amounts to gaining rights for certain groups. On the other hand, to a majority of nursing professionals advocacy amounts to attempts and calls for change in policies and resource allocations through political means. Advocating for change towards better service delivery and enhancing the environment for working for nursing professionals is in itself a major movement towards change in modern healthcare settings.

Social changes, historical events and changing consumer expectations towards quality healthcare have informed such efforts towards advocacy through political means. One of the most famous nursing leaders, Florence Nightingale did not use the term advocacy in her work but rather took up advocacy as a nursing responsibility given that her writings were consistent with advocacy for change in the delivery of healthcare services. Professional accountability and responsibility for individual actions are the foremost indicators of a nursing leader. This amounts to ensuring that service is delivered to patients as demanded and required by the law (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

Personal and Professional Accountability:

I aim at improving my financial skills towards becoming an exemplary leader who is able to ensure appropriate resource allocation for effective and efficient delivery of care to patients. This means that horning my financial skills will amount to ensuring that I am able to optimize my contributions to my workplace settings. I have been constantly engaged in other programs aimed at career progression through training and education towards enhancing my expert ability in delivery of care to patients. In the learning process I have been able to understand the essence of appropriate and the highest level of moral and ethical conduct in the workplace. This has been central towards ensuring that I am able to provide my clients or patients with the best care. Sticking to nursing ethics and morals ensures that in encounter minimal problems and frictions with management and the patients (Marquis, & Huston, 2009).

I have been using a nursing manager inventory towards improving my overall skills and personal interactions skills. This includes ensuring that achieve higher standards and scores in the fields of financial management, managing human resources as a leader within a given healthcare setting. Such has enabled me to work towards better skills in managing and distribution of resources. Understanding the economics of healthcare and related financial policies is essential given the shift assumed by the government towards financing of public care. I have been able to understand the overall effect of insurance and how to deal with insured and uninsured patients with a variety of needs. In an evolving world and rapidly changing healthcare provision means, it is imperative that I remain on a path of constant evaluation to enhance my understanding of different issues and to gain diversity in providing services to patients with different needs.
