The New England Primer

It has been said that The New England Primer was the most influential textbook in history.  This text, written by Benjamin Harris in 1690, was used to teach reading.  School in the 1700s was heavily influenced by religion. The common belief was that the inability to read was Satan’s way to keep people from reading the Bible. 

Scenario: Imagine you walk into your third grade classroom and your reading/literature textbooks have been replaced with The New England Primer. What would you say to your administrator? Predict your students’ reactions. Decide what you would do for reading today.

1- The design/engineering of the Coliseum was an amazing thing. Oftentimes, we would not see the intricacies of how it worked based upon simple images. The archeological remains have been studied at length and reveal even more structural/functional elements developed to fill the needs of this amazing venue including underground rooms & plumbing and sunshades for events in a hot and very sunny climate – here are some good links to check out. What sort of productions were important enough to this culture that they would go to such lengths to perfect a structure like this? What were the cultural concerns that lead to this innovation? Can you see any of the innovations present in this ancient architecture used in arenas today?

Use the Internet and Strayer databases, and recall your readings in Chapter 11 of Introduction to Epidemiology and Chapter 7 of Epidemiology for Public Health Practice to complete this assignment.

Write a five (5) page paper in which you:

  1. Through cohort study designs and other evidence-based management studies, identify the major causes of CVD, and analyze the key steps, including current medications, used to address the disease.
  2. Develop at least five (5) leading questions that may be posed to your local health department in regard to mitigating the proliferation of the disease. Provide a sound rationale for raising these questions.
  3. Based on the five (5) questions you developed in Question two (2), provide a rudimentary protocol to disseminate this information to your local community leaders.
  4. Recommend six (6) steps that may be given to your current or previous place of employment to prevent the proliferation of CVD. Provide support for your recommendations.

It is important to recognize the existence of a stereotype. The more you learn that certain behaviors and actions cannot be generalized to an entire group of people, the more likely you will be to treat others as individuals.For this assignment, consider your desired career, and think about some stereotypes associated with it. Incorporate at least 2 resources to show you have conducted research on your selected stereotype, and use those resources to help you add to and back up your statements. Support or refute those stereotypes. Respond to the following questions: 

  • Describe the stereotypes associated with your desired career. Be specific, and explain why you think those stereotypes exist.
