From the list of learning & assessment activities, under the section for web-based and other professional resources, click on the link to the ANA source on safe patient handling and mobility and read the sections indicated. Consider the statistics about the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders in RNs and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). The first ANA standard is to establish a culture of safety.

Initial Discussion Post:

As an RN participating on the committee providing recommendations to administration:

  • Describe two (2) high-risk tasks, and provide a recommendation to address each.
  • Discuss how you would address these recommendations with the UAP on the unit

Base your initial post on your readings and research of this topic.Your initial post must contain a minimum of 250 words. References, citations, and repeating the question do not count towards the 250 word minimum.

4. Complete the Technology Worksheet.

Use the following table to identify at least five different forms of technology that have affected communication in the workplace. Include a 100- to 140-word description of the effects each form of technology has had on communication and, more specifically, communication in health care.

Principalism is a system of ethics based on the four moral principles of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice (Childress, 2001). This is a set of rules that are presumptively binding, and is uses for the balance of ethical challenges in the medical field when faced with such challenges, and to be used when appropriate. The question seems to be how to balance the four and which principle takes precedence over the other principles. Principalism is to be used in context with the doctor or nurses scope of practice to those in which we hold obligations to serve (Meilaender, 2013). Autonomy is respect of person, and free will or agency along with one’s autonomous choices including informed consent, and having permission (Childress, 2001). This is ranked highest because without permission the other principles would have a hard time to follow. Beneficence is the “golden rule” it means to do good, it is taking the good vs. the bad, it is the benefit vs. the risk (Childress, 2001). Nonmaleficence is the negative side of beneficence and is the risk side, and means to do no harm (Childress, 2001). Justice is to act fairly, and is a social distribution of benefits and burdens, and would help to consider how to provide healthcare to those that cannot afford (Childress, 2001). It is extremely hard to rank the principles, because they all seem to help to try to answer the ethical questions that can arise in the medical profession, and with so many different worldviews how do one ask the right question, or apply the correct principle? I feel the remaining three principles hold the same value with again autonomy being the strongest principle, because without permission what do we have to go on. In Christian Biblical narrative, it has been said that Christians should reflect God’s image by following the 10 commandments, and embody the character of Jesus (Grand Canyon University, 2017). In applying a biblical principle when faced with ethical or other dilemmas it will allow one to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you and do good for all in trusted in your care (Grand Canyon University, 2017).

By definition it can be seen that linear correlation analysis is a statistical techniques use in the measurement of causation, direction, degree and significance of co-variation between two or more variables. The conclusion cigarettes cause the pulse rate to increase is not valid because linear correlation tells us the strength of the relationship. Correlation does not imply a casual relation. Where a causal relation says that if one variable increases it causes to increase the other variable as an effect. It means we cannot say which variable is the cause if there is a significant linear correlation exists between two variables. Linear correlation always depicts the strength of the relationship between two variables but it never depicts the casual relationship between two variables. Suppose if there is a positive linear relationship between height and weight we cannot say that height causes weight to increase or decrease and similarly weight causes height to increase or decrease. The conclusion from a linear correlation between two variables is that they are related to each other, but not that one causes the other. In given case as it conveys there is a casual relationship exists is not accepted because of the fact of casual relationship between cigarettes smoking and pulse rate. Contrary to casual relation, the linear relationship between two variables describes the power/strength of relation between cigarette smoked and pulse rate. In other words, correlation does not imply causation. To prove a causal relationship, further analysis is required. For valid linear correlation between two variable required the mutual influence of each variable on other so that there can be arise a relationship between two variables of cause and effect. Like there is a correlation between demand and supply (Pagano, 1981). Where demand can cause to increase or decrease the supply as an effect. So, for check valid correlation relation between cigarette smoking and increasing pulse rate, it should be determined that there exists a relation and if it exists then establish the cause and effect relation if any. But as we conclude that there does not occur such cause and effect relation so it is not valid.

When we review the damage and costs to ecosystems and the local economy, the oil releases such as the Deepwater Horizon drilling oil spill, as well as in other past such catastrophic events, the total is staggering. And, in many cases, these damages are not reversible.

You have indicated that, “… The main pollutants in this case were oil and gas leaking from an underwater drilling rig after it exploded. The oil and gas was leaking on the ocean floor and it was estimated that 3.19 barrels of oil had leaked into the Gulf of Mexico…”

However, why hasn’t someone developed a failsafe device/process that would just prevent oil spills altogether? Shouldn’t we push the industry to do this?  Isn’t this how the “better

mousetrap” gets built? Please discuss and be sure to supply the APA source that informs your response.

Barstow, David, Dodd, Laura, Glanz, James,  Saul, Stephanie and Urbina, Ian. (2010, June 20). Regulators failed to address risks in oil rig fail-safe device.  Retrieved
