Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Radiologic Technologies Presentation

In this scenario, your organization has struggled during the past year with hiring qualified radiologic technologists (X-ray techs, radiographers, or rad techs) in your state and two neighboring states. After reading an Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) scope of practice case, your supervisor has become concerned about whether your radiologic technologists can legally administer contrast media, or dye, under the supervision of a physician. If the state allows radiologic technologists to administer contrast media, the organization wants to invest in training radiologic technologists to administer the contrast media rather than hiring additional personnel.

Locate and evaluate the scope of practice information for radiologic technologists for your state and two neighboring states.

Create a 10-minute, 7- to 9-slide voice-over presentation using either Microsoft® PowerPoint® or websites like Google Slides™, Adobe® Slate, or Prezi that examines the following:

  • What information does each state include regarding scope of practice for radiologic technologists?
  • How does the scope of practice for radiologic technologists vary for each state (e.g., administration, certification, regulation, etc.)?
  • Can radiologic technologists in the three states administer contrast media or dye under the supervision of a physician?
  • In the absence of clarity from the state, discuss options where you might be able to turn to in order to justify practice guidelines for your organization. (What are other similar organizations doing? How do they justify it?)
  • Recommend action items to your supervisor.
  • Training in contrast administration?
  • Hire additional personnel?
  • Cost?

1)Assignment – What is security through obscurity and why is it bad?

Please discuss.

Security through obscurity can be said to be bad because it often implies that the obscurity is being used as the principal means of security. Obscurity is fine until it is discovered, but once someone has worked out your particular obscurity, then your system is vulnerable again.

You must do the following:

Create a new thread. As indicated above, please explain security through obscurity and why is it bad with examples.

2)Read the mini case, Building Shared Services at RR Communications (pp. 156-159).

Submit a Word document with the following:

  • Complies with the APA and writing standards for this course
  • Has a SafeAssign score of less than 25%. You may submit your assignment multiple times to check the SafeAssign score. Only the final submission will be graded. Final submissions with a SafeAssign score of 25% or higher will not be graded.
  • Has three scholarly sources, not including our textbook.
  • Answer question two and five on page 159. Your answer to each question should be about two pages long.

Ethical question

Consider the case, Nurses caught between a rock and a hard place.

Nurses at Memorial Hospital, a 40 bed rural community hospital, are faced with what seems an impossible dilemma. Their best efforts to advocate for patients are routinely blocked by the hospital’s physicians and senior leadership. Two recent examples: When Mr. Rodriguez, a seasoned surgical nurse, requested time to administer an analgesic before a patient’s painful wound debridement, he was told by the surgeon that no pain medication was necessary. The patient was clearly in distress while the debridement was performed and so was his nurse. When Mr. Rodriguez reported this experience to the supervisor he was told that the nurse’s job is to do what the physician orders.

On another occasion, a woman presented to the emergency room with a fractured distal radius. Because a family member with a similar injury had unsatisfactory results (deformity and pain with movement) when treated by the doctor on call that evening, the woman and her husband requested transport to a larger hospital. The doctor on call insisted that it was important to set the fracture as soon as possible and convinced the couple that he could competently perform the procedure. The nurse had reservations about the doctor’s competence and wanted to counsel the couple to be persistent in seeking transport to another facility, but knew that her job was on the line if she did. When she reports this to her supervisor she is told that her job is not to advocate for patients but to be a loyal employee.

Repeated efforts by nurses to address these sorts of challenges have resulted in the persistent message that they can accept the status quo or leave. The nursing supervisor is tightly allied with medical director and Chief of ED (CEP). The problem for the nurses is that it is a 2 hour drive over the mountain to the nearest hospital and there are no other employment options.

Answer the following questions: 1) Which ethical principles are being violated in this scenario according to the ANA Ethics Definitions? 2) Which Code of Ethics provision best describes the nurse’s dilemma in this situation? 3) Where might the nurses at Memorial Hospital find resources to help in intervening to resolve their moral dilemma?

Key Points:

Ethical principles identified.

Use of the Code of Ethics
Resources to help in intervening to resolve a moral dilemma.

HCS465 University of Phoenix Administrative Healthcare Research Study Paper

Use the University Library to locate peer-reviewed research articles related to a research study about health or health care issues, concerns, or trends.

  • The research article must describe a research study, not an editorial or brief.
  • The research study must be based in the United States from 2010 to the present.
  • It is recommended that you select health topics of interest to you or your job, with no complex statistical analyses.

Review the Researching Articles in the University Library Tutorial for help finding articles.

Select at least 3 peer-reviewed* articles to use to complete an annotated bibliography. The 3 research articles can be based on the same or different topics. Topic ideas can include (but are not limited to):

  • Adolescent obesity (select different geographic locales: urban vs rural)
  • Infection rates among ICU patients
  • Readmission rates for congestive heart failure patients
  • Patient satisfaction or patient experience of care
  • Population health management in diabetes care
  • Care coordination or care continuum
  • Patient safety or quality management
  • Cancer screening compliance, such as mammography, colonoscopy, or Pap smear

Complete the annotated bibliography based on the 3 articles you selected from the University Library.

Review the sample annotated bibliography provided by the University Library. Be sure to do the following for each bibliography:

  • Summarize the research study in your own words (at least 150 words).
  • Include the major areas of the research study, such as the sample, geographic location, and the outcome.
  • Bibliographies should not include any direct quotes or in-text citation.

*Note: One research article will be used in the Week 3 Learning Team assignment, Components of a Research Study.

Discuss how you determined the articles are peer reviewed.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines. Remember to alphabetize your annotated bibliography.

Assessment/Discussion on peer research papers

Click on the link to open the articles and post comments (250 words each) on EIGHT articles to be graded for this discussion board. In your post, please provide the article (report) #, title and classmate name, and write your comments.

In the post, you will comment on the article for its completeness, background research, content, identification of environmental risk factors and populations, target audience and more importantly you will comment on the appropriateness of the identified mode of communication for the given population in the article.

A critical assessment of an overall quality of the research and article will earn you extra 2 points for your the comments on each report.

PCS Coding

ICD-10-PCS defines “approach” as the technique used to reach the site of the procedure. It is important to know the difference between the different approaches in order to correctly assign the fifth character value in the Medical and Surgical section. There are (7) approaches utilized within the Medical and Surgical section; open, percutaneous, percutaneous endoscopic, via natural or artificial opening, via natural or artificial opening endoscopic, via natural or artificial opening with percutaneous endoscopic assistance and/or external.
